Read late without lighting the room
A bedside lamp lights the whole room, which is fine until someone else is trying to sleep in it. This clips to the book and lights the page, and nothing else.
Three colour modes, five brightness levels, and an arm that folds flat so it lives in the book between sessions.
Amber is the one that matters
Most book lights give you one hard white LED. This has three: amber, warm white and white, each at five brightness levels. The amber setting is the reason to buy it — it is warm and low enough to read by for an hour without the jolt of a cold screen-white light right before you put the book down.
The head turns, so both pages are lit
The arm swings through 180 degrees, which is what stops one page being bright and the other in shadow — the specific failure of cheap book lights. It also means you can clip it once and keep adjusting as the book gets thicker on one side.
A clip that does not mark the cover
Sprung jaws with soft pads, wide enough for a hardback cover and gentle enough for a paperback. It grips an e-reader, a music stand or a laptop screen just as happily.
It folds down into a bookmark
Flat and slim enough to close inside the book and mark your page, so it is there next time rather than in a drawer. Eight to eighty hours per charge depending on how bright you run it, over USB-C, with four dots telling you what is left.
