Repellent sprays run out, wear off and go on your skin. This is a wrist band instead: a soft silicone strap with a small ultrasonic emitter in the case, three block modes and a digital clock face, so once it is buckled on there is nothing to reapply and nothing to carry.

It is sold as a natural, chemical-free alternative to DEET sprays and lotions — nothing is sprayed, nothing is released, and nothing goes onto your skin. You wear it the way you would wear a slim fitness tracker, on a walk, in the garden, on a camp chair after dark.

Get the strap seated properly — this is the one thing people get wrong

The band closes in two steps, and the second one is the one that gets skipped:

Push the stud through a hole. Pick the hole that leaves the band snug against your wrist, not loose enough to slide over your wrist bone.
Then tuck the tail under the keeper loop. The flat end of the strap has to go back through the loop so it lies flat and captured against the band.

If the tail is left sticking out, the strap can catch on a sleeve, a bag strap or a car door and pop open, and the band comes off without you noticing. That is the most common complaint on this style of band across the category, and it is a fitting problem rather than a fault. Seat it properly and check it after you put a jacket on.

The three block modes

The band ships with three block modes, selected from the one button on the case. The listing has always described them as three modes for different settings — around the house, out and about, and quiet for sleeping. We do not hold a manufacturer's mode table for this unit, so we are not going to tell you which press does which: the instruction sheet in the box has the sequence for the unit you receive.

Read this before you buy. This band is sold on the claim that ultrasound repels mosquitoes. We want you to know exactly how much is behind the numbers on a page like this one, because most listings in this category will not tell you.

We hold no manufacturer test data for this unit. So you will not find a frequency in kilohertz on this page, a coverage radius, an effectiveness percentage, a battery run time, or a waterproof rating — not because they are secret, but because we cannot show you a document for them, and we would rather leave a field blank than fill it with a number we cannot stand behind.

Questions people ask

Will I be able to hear it?

No. The output is above the range of ordinary adult hearing, which is the whole point of the format. There is no zap, no click and no buzz.

Does anything touch my skin?

Only the silicone strap. Nothing is sprayed, absorbed or released, so there is no smell on your clothes, nothing on your hands and nothing to wash off later.

How do I charge it?

With the USB cable in the box. We do not have a manufacturer figure for how long a charge lasts, so we are not going to quote one — top it up the night before a trip and you will not be caught out.

Will it fit a child, or an older child's wrist?

The perforated strap adjusts down a long way, so the size range is wide. Note that it is a small hard case on a silicone strap and it is not designed as a baby or toddler product; keep it off very young children.

Can I wear it in the shower or swimming?

We have no water-resistance rating for this unit, so treat it as not water resistant. Take it off before you shower or swim, and dry it if it gets caught in rain.
