A retrofit kit that adds automatic flushing to a toilet with a push-button flush. A small motion sensor outside the tank triggers a battery-powered unit inside the tank, which presses the flush for you.

Nobody has to touch the flush button: handy for kids who forget, for guests, and for anyone who would rather not.

Check your toilet first

It fits push-button toilets, not lever toilets

The flush unit works by pressing down on the flush valve inside the tank, the job the push button on the lid normally does. So it only fits toilets that flush with a push button on top of the tank and have a round tower-style flush valve inside. It does not fit toilets that flush with a handle on the side of the tank, a chain and a rubber flapper, which is the setup most US homes have.

Setting it up

Four steps, no water connections

Check the tank

Lift the lid and confirm a round push-button flush valve.

Hang the battery box

Hook it on the top of the overflow pipe, clear of the water.

Fit the flush unit

Seat it on top of the flush valve and plug its lead into the battery box.

Place the sensor

Stick it on the wall, the lid or the side of the bowl, then step up and away to test it.

The maker's leaflet and the markings on the parts may not be in English, so keep these steps handy.

On the wall, under the lid or on the bowl

The sensor has no cable to the tank, so you can put it where it will see you: on the wall above the tank, on the underside of the toilet lid, or low on the side of the bowl. The maker gives its sensing distance as up to about 20 in (50 cm).
