A band, a brim, and nothing across the top
This is an open-crown sun visor. A cotton twill band goes around your head, a wide curved brim is sewn to the front of it, and there is no panel over the crown at all. Everything the product does follows from that.
The brim puts a hard edge of shade across your eyes and face, which is what you want when the sun is low enough to sit in your sightline - the back half of a tennis court, the tee, the last mile of a morning run. The open top is the trade: heat leaves through it, a ponytail or a bun goes straight up through it, and your scalp stays bare.
If you already own a cap and never wear it because your head cooks in it, this is the version of that hat without the part that cooks.
What we will and will not tell you about the sun
The listing title on this page is a sun hat title, so it is worth being exact about what is behind it.
The shade is geometry, and it is real. A brim this wide, worn on your forehead, keeps direct sun off your eyes and the front of your face. Nothing has to be certified for that to be true - you can see it happen.
There is no UPF number here, and we are not going to invent one. A UPF rating is a laboratory result: a fabric sample is tested to a published standard - AS/NZS 4399 or AATCC 183 - and only then can the garment carry a figure. No such test has been done on this fabric and no rating has been supplied to us. So you will not find a UPF, SPF or UV-blocking figure anywhere on this page, and you should not read one into the title.
Your scalp is not covered. That is the whole point of the design, and it is also its limit. If you part your hair, or your hair is thinning, or you burn on top, an open crown will not help you there - a full-crown cap or a bucket hat will. Wear this the way you would wear sunglasses: it handles the glare, and sunscreen still handles your skin.
How it is put together
The outside is a matte cotton twill - that is the material the supplier states, and it is what the weave in the photography looks like. The band is topstitched along its top edge, and the brim is topstitched in rows that follow its curve.
Two details are worth looking at in the photos above. The first is the sweatband: the inside of the band is faced with a white honeycomb mesh, so the surface against your forehead is open mesh rather than flat cotton. The second is the brim edge, which carries a thin contrasting sandwich trim all the way round - white on the yellow, blue, black, red and orange, and black on the white.
At the back, the band ends in a plain rectangular fabric tab that laps flat over the band. There is no buckle, no plastic slider, no snap and no metal hardware anywhere on it.
One size, and the honest gap in it
There is one size. You set the band where you want it and the tab at the back holds it there.
We are not publishing a head-circumference range, because none has been supplied to us and a range is not something we are willing to estimate. If you are near either end of adult hat sizing, that is a real unknown and you should treat it as one.
The old version of this page carried a single unlabeled measurement in its spec list, with no indication of what part of the visor it measured. We have taken it off rather than pass it on. Numbers on this catalogue have turned out before to be measuring a pocket, a strap or one rung of a ladder, and one we cannot trace is worth less than no number at all.
Washing it
No care label instruction was supplied with this product, so what follows is our advice rather than a manufacturer instruction: hand wash cool, press the brim back into its curve while it is damp, and let it air dry.
The reasoning is the brim. A curved brim on a fabric visor holds its shape because of what is inside it, and we have no documentation of what that is, so a hot wash or a tumble dryer is a risk with nothing to gain. Cotton also takes a crease and keeps it.

- you need the top of your head covered - buy a cap or a bucket hat instead
- you specifically want a rated UV garment, because this one carries no rating
- you need a documented head size before you buy, because we do not have one
