Pull-Down Cabinet Shelf – 2-Tier Lift-Down Basket for 24 in Upper Cabinets

A two-tier basket that brings your upper-cabinet shelf down to the counter

This is a lift-down storage basket for a 24 in wide wall cabinet. It screws to the inside walls of the cabinet, and two spring-counterbalanced arms on each side carry two glass-floored trays. Pull the handle and the whole basket swings down and forward to chest height; push it back and it parks inside the cabinet again. It is built for the top shelf you cannot reach without a step stool.

What it actually is

• A lift-down basket, not a slide-out shelf. The basket does not slide straight out. It travels on a pair of parallel arms on each side, so it comes down and forward in one arc, and the trays stay level the whole way. The arms fold back as the basket rises.
• Spring assist with three settings. Each side mounting block carries a chrome button. The two buttons together set the spring counterbalance for a light, medium or full load, so the basket does not drop under a heavy load or spring up when it is empty. The settings are changed only while the basket is parked inside the cabinet.
• A documented load limit. The maximum basket load printed on the unit itself is 26 lb (12 kg). That is the figure we use; we do not claim more.
• Two trays, 10.6 in apart. Each tray has a flat glass floor and a low smoked-glass guard panel, about 3 in tall, so jars and tins stay put as the basket moves and you can see what is on the tray from below.
• One size, for a 24 in cabinet. The unit is 22.2 in wide overall, including its two mounting blocks, which is the inside width of a standard 24 in (60 cm) wall cabinet. It is not adjustable in width.

Installation and safe use

• It mounts to the cabinet side walls, not the back. Each mounting block fixes through its top flange into a side panel with the supplied screws. Use every screw, and fix into a solid side panel, not a thin back board. At 28.7 lb unloaded, plus up to 26 lb of contents hanging in front of the cabinet, the cabinet itself must be securely fixed to the wall. If you are not sure it is, have a cabinet installer check it first.
• Two people to fit it. The unit has to be held level inside the cabinet while the first screws go in.
• Set the spring buttons with the basket parked. Never press or pull the buttons while the basket is moving. Match the setting to what is on the trays; the maker's guide is to read the weight off the packaging of what you store.
• Load the lower tray with the heavy items and spread the weight across the tray rather than bunching it at the front.
• Keep hands away from the arm pivots as the basket rises and falls; the arms close like scissors. Lower and raise it by the handle only.
• Not for children to operate. The basket comes down to the height of a small child's head over the counter.
• Glass floors. Set heavy cans down rather than dropping them onto the tray.

Good to know

• What it is good for. Spices, oils, jars, tins, boxed dry goods, mugs and small dishes on the shelf you use every day but cannot see into.
• What it is not. It is not a dish rack and is not meant for stacks of plates or a full set of heavy cookware; 26 lb is about a dozen full standard jars.
• Cabinet width is fixed. There is no width adjustment. If your cabinet is 21 in or 30 in wide, this unit will not fit it.
• Colour. The unit is a dark charcoal grey; the maker's studio photographs read a little cooler than the powder coat does in a kitchen.
