Two are listed, and they are a genuinely different proposition, so read this before you choose.

• Large — 22.4 x 24 x 11.8 in (57 x 61 x 30 cm). This is the one in every photograph on this page. Deep enough across the top to work on with a laptop, and about a foot tall, so it is a real object to find a home for when you are not using it.
• Compact — 22 x 13 in (56 x 33 cm). The same width across, roughly half the depth. Choose it if you want somewhere to rest forearms and a book rather than a surface to work on.

If you are buying it to use a laptop on, take the large. Most disappointment with a product like this comes from ordering one and picturing the other.

Does the cover actually come off?

Yes. It is removable and washable. Wash it cool, air-dry it, and put it back on the shaped inner.

Can I put a laptop on it?

The large size takes one comfortably, with the base resting against the raised rim. Two things to know. It is a soft cushion, not a rigid desk, so the top gives a little under weight and a very heavy laptop will settle into it. And the underside of a laptop that runs hot will be against fabric rather than against open air, which is worth watching on a long session.

Will it hold its shape?

It is a soft-filled cushion and it behaves like one: it compresses where you lean on it and recovers when you take the weight off. Give it a shake and a reshape now and then, as you would any filled cushion. If you want something that stays rigid under a heavy laptop, this is not that product — a hard lap desk is.

Will it fit my bed?

The large is about as wide as an adult's shoulders, so it sits across one person's side of a bed without crowding anyone next to you. Measure the depth before you commit: at 24 in (61 cm) front to back, it takes up a good stretch of lap and needs somewhere to live between uses.

What fits in the side pocket?

A phone, a TV remote, glasses, a pen — the things that otherwise get lost in bedding and found later by sitting on them. It is one flat patch pocket, not a deep bucket, so it holds slim things rather than a full book.

What is the difference between the two colours?
