A small, quiet wireless mouse with a see-through shell

This is a compact wireless mouse built for smaller hands, with a clear outer shell over a colored inner body so you can see the works. It connects two ways, by the little USB receiver that stores inside the mouse or by Bluetooth, and it switches between them with a button on the base. The buttons are the quiet kind: they click under your finger but make almost no sound in the room. It charges from a cable rather than taking batteries, and it lights up, or not, at the flick of a switch.

What it actually is

• A branded product, not a no-name. It is the Q9 made by EWEADN (Jiangxi Jichi Technology), a Chinese peripherals maker, and the maker's mark is printed on the base. We sell it as it comes.
• Small on purpose. About 3.7 by 2.5 by 1.5 inches (93 by 64 by 37 mm) and about 3.4 ounces (95 g), by the maker's figures. It is sized for small to medium hands and a fingertip or claw grip. If your hand is large and you palm-grip a full-size mouse, this will feel small.
• Two ways to connect. A 2.4 GHz USB receiver for any computer with a USB-A port, or Bluetooth for a laptop, tablet or phone that has it. One button on the base swaps between the two, so it can live on a desktop PC by receiver and hop to a tablet by Bluetooth.
• Quiet buttons. The two main buttons use low-noise switches. You still feel the click; the people around you mostly do not hear it.
• Four sensitivity steps. A button on the base cycles the sensor through 800, 1600, 2400 and 4800 DPI, per the maker's chart, so you can pick how far the pointer moves for a given hand movement. The sensor is an office-class optical sensor, not an esports sensor.
• Lights you can turn off. The inner body carries RGB lighting that cycles through colors. A switch on the base turns the lighting off, which also stretches the battery.
• Built-in battery. A 500 mAh rechargeable battery inside, charged through the included cable. No AA or AAA cells to buy.

Setting it up

• By receiver. Slide the small USB receiver out of its slot in the mouse, plug it into a USB-A port, switch the mouse on underneath, and it works. No software to install.
• By Bluetooth. Press the mode button on the base until the indicator shows Bluetooth mode, then add the mouse from your device's Bluetooth settings.
• Switching devices. Press the mode button again to jump back to the receiver.
• Charging. Plug the included cable into the port on the mouse.

Good to know

• It is a small mouse. That is the point of it, and also the reason to check the size line above before you buy.
• The receiver is tiny. Keep it in the slot in the mouse when you travel; it is the part that gets lost.
• The clear shell shows fingerprints. A dry microfiber cloth keeps it clean. Do not use alcohol or solvent on the clear plastic.
• Not an esports mouse. It is fine for everyday use and casual games. If you want a high polling rate or a flagship sensor, this is not that.
