Rear-view mirror phone mount

It hangs your phone off the mirror instead of the dash or the vent

A deep U-shaped saddle hooks over the top edge of your rear-view mirror. Four soft rubber tips close on the housing and hold it there. From the underside of that saddle a short telescoping arm drops down to a sprung cradle, and the cradle is where the phone sits — up near the mirror line rather than flat on the dashboard or clipped into an air vent.

Nothing sticks to anything. No adhesive pad, no suction cup, no vent clip levering on a plastic fin. It clamps on, and it lifts back off when you want the mirror plain again.

Whether it fits comes down to your mirror, not your phone

This is the one thing that decides if it works in your car, so we have put it before everything else. The saddle is a fixed shape. It was made to hook over a slim, conventional mirror — the kind with a thin housing and a clear top edge you could hang a finger over.

Slim mirror: it fits

A plain mirror with a shallow housing and an accessible top edge. The upper arms reach over the top, the lower arms come up behind, and the four rubber tips close on it.

Thick mirror: it does not

Deep frameless mirrors, wide auto-dimming units and the large display-style mirrors fitted to a lot of newer cars are too deep front to back for the saddle to close around.

Never force it

If the arms will not close on your mirror without spreading, stop. Levering the saddle open around a housing it was not shaped for is how these break, and it breaks on the first fitting.

Go and look at your mirror before you order. If the housing is deep, or the mirror is a screen, this is the wrong mount for that car and no amount of adjusting will change it.

How it moves

Three joints, and that is the whole adjustment

  • The saddle pivots. A knuckle where the arm leaves the saddle lets the arm swing from folded flat and tucked under the mirror, out to hanging straight down.
  • The arm telescopes. Two square tubes slide inside one another, so the cradle can sit tight up under the mirror or be drawn out closer to you. The manufacturer's own product graphic puts the extra reach at a little under two inches.
  • The cradle turns. A second knuckle behind the backing plate lets the cradle spin on its axis, so the phone runs upright for a map or on its side for anything wider.
  • The cradle grips at four corners. A fixed hook over the top, an adjustable foot underneath, and two sprung side wings that close in. You set the foot once for your phone and it stays set.

There is nothing electrical in it. No charging, no magnets, no battery, no app.

We publish the measurements we can stand behind. We do not hold a manufacturer-certified phone size range, phone weight limit, mirror thickness range or item weight for this mount, so we are not printing numbers we cannot source. If a specific measurement decides it for you, ask us before you order and we will get it from the supplier or tell you plainly that we could not.

Before you fit it

Where you hang it is a decision, and it is yours

Anything mounted on a rear-view mirror sits in the space you look through. Several US states have rules about what may be hung from or attached to the mirror, and other states enforce a general rule about keeping the view through the windshield clear. Those rules differ state to state and they change. Check the one that applies where you drive before you fit this, and set the arm and the cradle so the phone sits low and off to the side rather than anywhere in your line of sight to the road.

Set it up with the car stationary. Position the arm, seat the phone, angle the cradle, and then drive. Reaching up to a mirror-height mount while the car is moving is the opposite of what this is for.

We are not going to tell you this makes you a safer driver. It is a bracket. It holds a phone in a particular place, and whether that place is a good idea in your car, on your commute, under your state's law, is your call to make with your eyes open.

What we changed on this page

This listing previously carried a set of customer quotes and a buyer count that we could not trace to a real source, along with several performance and compatibility statements the manufacturer has never documented to us. We have removed all of it rather than leave it standing. The page now says only what the product visibly is, what its own manufacturer documents, and what we do not know.

The product video attached to this listing was made earlier and describes the mount in stronger terms than this page now does. Treat this page as the accurate description of what you are buying.
