A belt, a diagonal panel, and a thigh cuff. That is the whole idea.

This is a neoprene wrap that ties your upper thigh to your waist. The long belt goes around your waist and does not move. A wide diagonal panel runs from the belt down across the front of your hip. At the bottom of that panel is a cuff that closes around your upper thigh with two straps. Once all three are fastened, the hip joint sits inside a closed loop of firm elastic fabric instead of hanging free.

What you feel is even, wrapping pressure across the hip and groin, and warmth — neoprene traps body heat, which is most of why a wrap like this feels good on a cold morning. What you get mechanically is a little less range at the end of a stride and a constant reminder from the fabric of where your leg is. For a lot of people that is enough to make a walk, a shift on your feet, or a drive noticeably more tolerable.

What this is not. It is a support garment, not a treatment. It does not heal an injury, shorten a recovery, reduce inflammation, change blood flow, or do anything to a nerve, a joint or a disc. If you have sciatica, arthritis, bursitis, a labral tear or a strain, this wrap does not treat any of them and we are not going to tell you it does. Some people find a supported, warm hip more comfortable while they deal with those things through their doctor. That is the honest version of the claim.

The three things that decide whether it works for you

1. The order you fasten it in

Almost every "it slid down my leg" story is a fastening-order story. The belt is the anchor and everything else pulls against it. Get the belt flat and snug around your waist first, sitting just above the hip bone, and close it at the front. Then close the lower thigh strap. Then the upper one. If you do the thigh first, the wrap has nothing to pull against and it works its way down the leg within a few hundred steps.

Belt firstFlat around the waist, snug enough that it does not travel when you twist, not so tight it digs in when you sit.
Lower thigh strap nextAround the upper thigh, above the mid-point. Firm, with a finger's slack.
Upper thigh strap lastThis is the one that sets the compression across the hip. Adjust this one, not the belt, if it feels wrong.
Re-snug after five minutesNeoprene relaxes as it warms up. Everyone's first fit is slightly loose by the time they have walked to the end of the street.

2. Which leg, and over what

It is symmetrical, so the same wrap fits the left or the right leg — turn it over and the belt runs the other way. Wear it over a thin layer rather than on bare skin. Neoprene against skin gets clammy within an hour and the hook-and-loop patches will find any bare leg hair you own. Under loose pants it disappears completely. Under close-fitting jeans it will read as a ridge.

3. Size, honestly

One size, adjustable at three points. The manufacturer of this design states it fits up to a 45 in waist and up to a 28 in thigh at the widest point, and buyer feedback on the same wrap sold elsewhere lines up with that: people near the top of that range report it closes, but only just. If you are above it, this is not the wrap for you.

You may see this style of wrap sold with a "fits hips 32–44 in" figure attached. That number belongs to a different brand's medium size and it is a hip measurement, not a waist one. We took it off this page rather than repeat a number we cannot trace to the item in this box.

What is actually in the box

What ships
One wrap. Nothing else — no ice pack, no gel insert, no second strap, no case.
Outer face
Matte black neoprene
Inner face
Red neoprene, perforated with a dense field of small holes so air can move through it
Closures
Three hook-and-loop points: one waist belt, two thigh straps
Sides
Symmetrical. Wears on the left or the right leg
Fit
One adjustable size. See the note above before you order
Care
Hand wash cool, air dry flat. Neoprene does not like a tumble dryer or a radiator

Who tends to be happy with it, and who does not

Happy: people who are on their feet or behind a wheel for long stretches and want the hip to feel held rather than loose; people who like the warmth; people who want something they can put on under work pants and forget about.

Not happy: people expecting rigid bracing — this is fabric, it does not immobilize anything; people at the top of the size range; people who want to wear it against bare skin all day; and anyone hoping it will fix the underlying problem, because it will not.

If your pain is new, severe, spreading down the leg, waking you at night, or coming with numbness or weakness, please get it looked at properly before you buy a wrap for it.
