Auto-darkening welding helmet · flip-up front

Weld, flip it up, grind. Same helmet.

The gold front of this helmet holds the auto-darkening filter. Flip it down and it darkens the moment you strike an arc. Flip it up and you look through a large clear inner shield, so you can grind, chip slag and check the joint without taking the helmet off.

A curved outer visor wraps around the sides of the shell, so you keep some view to the left and right while you work.

A wide filter that darkens on its own.

The auto-darkening filter gives you a 4.41 x 2.95 in (112 x 75 mm) view of the puddle. Four arc sensors watch for the flash. Before you strike, it sits at a light shade 3, so you can line up the torch; when the arc starts, it switches to the welding shade you set.

Set the welding shade from 9 to 12 for MIG, TIG and stick (MMA) work, or 4 to 8 for cutting. The filter is a true-color type, so the light-state view is closer to natural colour than the heavy green of older filters.

Flip up to grind

No second face shield.

Lift the gold front and the clear inner shield stays down over your face. Grind a bevel, knock off slag or look at a bead in normal light, then drop the front and weld again.

If you prefer to keep the front down while you grind, the filter also has a grind mode that holds it at the light shade so grinding sparks do not trigger it.

Worth knowing before you buy

The honest notes.

Shade 12 is the darkest setting. For very high-amperage work that calls for shade 13 or darker, use a helmet rated for it.
Check the filter before first use. Press TEST to confirm it darkens, and replace the clear outer lens when spatter pits it.
Workplace requirements. We do not state an ANSI or CSA certification for this helmet. If your job site requires marked eye and face protection, check the markings on the filter and shell when it arrives, before you use it at work.
