Floating pool leaf skimmer + animal escape ramp
A way out for the frog, a net for the leaves
Frogs, toads and mice that fall into a pool swim along the wall looking for an exit. This floating catcher sits against the wall and gives them one: a mesh ramp from the water up to your deck.
The same float is an open-sided mesh basket. Leaves and bugs drifting on the surface current flow into its mouth and collect there until you lift it out and tip it. No pump, no power, no tools.
How it works
It floats, the ramp climbs, the bag holds it
- Floating basket. Fabric-covered floats keep the mesh basket at the waterline. The open front takes in whatever the surface current carries toward it.
- Mesh escape ramp. A support rod slides through the ramp's stitching so it holds a gentle slope from the basket top to the pool edge. Small animals can grip the mesh and climb out.
- Deck anchor bag. You fill the flat blue bag with sand or small stones and lay it on the coping. Its weight keeps the whole unit from drifting away.

Fill the bag
Pour sand or small stones into the deck bag. Sand and stones are not included.
Insert the rod
Slide the support rod through the stitching along the ramp so it holds its slope.
Float and anchor
Set the basket on the water against the wall and lay the bag flat on the deck edge.
Before you buy
Where it works, and where it does not
- You need a ledge. The bag has to lie flat on a deck, coping stone or a top rail wide enough to hold it. It works on in-ground pools and on above-ground pools with a flat top rail.
- Put it in the flow. It is a passive catcher. It collects what drifts into it, so place it where leaves collect or upstream of your skimmer, with the open side facing the current.
- It adds to your routine; it does not replace it. Keep your skimmer basket and leaf net. On a still pool with no circulation, leaves can drift past it.
- Small animals only. Sized for frogs, toads, lizards, mice and chipmunks.

Care
Empty it, rinse it, store it
Lift the basket out of the water, tip the leaves out and set it back. Rinse with fresh water now and then. At the end of the season let it dry fully, empty the sand, and pack it in the storage bag.
