Lower back stretcher · back cracker
Lie back. Let the arch do the stretching.
A firm arch that you lie back over, so your lower back settles into a gentle backward stretch under its own weight. No straps, no power, nothing to hold: you lie down, breathe, and let the tension go.
It clips into its base at three heights, so you can start with a mild curve and move up only when that feels easy.
What it is
A simple arch that opens up a stiff back.
Hours of sitting fold the body forward. This stretcher does the opposite: it lifts the small of your back into a slow curve over a black plastic arch covered in raised nubs, with a soft foam strip running down the middle for your spine to rest on.
Lie on it for a minute or two on the floor or a yoga mat, and many people feel the kind of release, and sometimes the pop, they would otherwise wait for a stretch class to get.
Three heights
Start low. Go higher when you are ready.
The gentle start
The lowest, flattest curve. Where everyone should begin, and where many people stay.
A deeper stretch
Clip the arch into the middle notch once level one feels comfortable and easy.
The full arch
The highest curve, for a back that is already used to the stretch. Never rush to it.
How to use it
A few quiet minutes at the end of the day.
Set the stretcher on the floor, sit just in front of it, and lower yourself back so the arch sits under the small of your back and runs along your spine. Keep your knees bent and your feet flat, rest your head on the floor, and breathe slowly.
To get off, roll to one side rather than sitting straight up. Slide it a little higher along your spine to reach the middle and upper back.
What arrives
Three parts, no tools.
Light enough to carry in a tote bag to the office or the gym.

The details, plainly.
Worth knowing before you buy
The honest small print.
- It is firm. The nubs are meant to be felt. The foam strip softens the center, and a thin towel over the arch softens it further.
- Go gently. Start on the lowest height for a minute or two. Stop if you feel sharp pain, numbness or tingling.
- Check with your doctor first if you have a diagnosed spine condition, osteoporosis, a recent back injury or surgery, or are pregnant.
- A stretching aid, not a treatment. It gives your back a comfortable stretch; it does not diagnose, treat or cure any condition.
- Weight limit. The supplier rates it to about 200 lb (90 kg).
Give your back the stretch the chair takes away.
A three-height arch back stretcher that you simply lie back over, for a few calm minutes of release at home, at work or after a workout.
