Narrow satin scarf
One long strip of satin, and about six feet of places to put it
This is a skinny scarf, not a shawl. About 79 in long and only about 2 in wide, with both ends cut on a slant so each finishes in a single clean point. That shape is the whole idea: it is narrow enough to knot small and tidy, and long enough to go twice around your neck and still tie a bow.
It is a plain solid color with no pattern, no fringe and no trim, which is why it works at the neck, in your hair, around a bag handle or through belt loops without looking like it belongs to one outfit.

We are not going to tell you what this scarf is made of
Because we do not know, and this page has said three different things. The product name used to include the word "silk". The body copy said polyester. The search description that Google has been showing was an unedited block of supplier attributes, and inside it the material field said rayon. Those are three different fibers. They cannot all be right, and none of them came with any documentation.
We went back to the supplier's own live listing for this item. It does not state a material at all — the specification table lists the weave, the season and the country of origin, and simply has no fiber field. So we have nothing to stand on.
What we can tell you is the weave. Satin is a way of weaving cloth, not a fiber. It is what produces the bright, smooth, light-catching face and the duller reverse you can see in the close-up photograph above. Satin can be woven from almost anything. Saying a fabric is satin says how it was made and how it behaves; it says nothing about what it is made from.
So the word has come out of the product name, out of the product type, out of the tags and out of the search description, and no fiber is named anywhere on this page. We would rather sell you a scarf described accurately as satin than one described attractively and wrongly.
If you need to know the fiber — for an allergy, for care, or because you are matching it to something — check the small sewn-in label near one end of the scarf when it arrives, and if that is not enough for you, please do not order this one yet. We are asking the supplier for a materials declaration.
The measurements
Both figures are the supplier's own and are approximate. Nobody here has laid a tape over a physical unit, so treat them as close rather than exact. For a sense of it without a ruler: the strip is about as wide as two fingers held side by side, and long enough to wrap an adult's neck twice with two tails still hanging to the waist.
Five ways people actually tie it
- A flat bow at the throat. One turn close around the neck, a small bow at the front, the pointed ends left to hang. The narrow width is what keeps the bow small enough to look deliberate.
- A loose knot, tails down the front. Two turns, one soft knot off to one side, both tails down the front of a shirt or a blazer. This is the one that reads as a vertical line of color.
- Around a ponytail. Two or three turns around the base and a bow, with the ends left to trail down over the hair.
- As a headband. Over the crown, tied underneath at the nape or on top near one ear.
- On a bag handle, a wrist, or through belt loops. Wound and tied the same way. Long enough for a handle to take several turns before you tie it off.
Reading the color list
Six of the ten color names on this page did not describe the color in the photograph, so we have changed them. What you are buying has not changed — same scarf, same variant, same photograph — only the label on it.
- Jade Green was listed as "Cyan". It is a deep blue-green, not a bright pale cyan.
- Silver Gray was listed as "Light Blue". It is a cool silver-gray with no blue in it.
- Lilac was listed as "Purple". It is a soft pale lavender, not a saturated purple.
- Wine Red was listed as "Red". It is a deep burgundy.
- Mustard was listed as "Yellow". It is a warm golden amber.
- Ivory was listed as "White". It is a warm cream, not a bright white.
Blue, Navy Blue, Black and Pink were already accurate and are unchanged. Colors on a screen are never exact; satin in particular photographs brighter than it looks in a room, because the weave throws light back at the camera.
Looking after it
We have to be consistent here: because we cannot tell you the fiber, we cannot give you confident washing instructions either. Polyester and rayon behave very differently in water and under an iron.
Follow the sewn-in label on the scarf itself. If it is missing or you cannot read it, treat the scarf as the most delicate of the possibilities: hand wash in cool water, do not wring it, roll it in a towel to take the water out, and hang it to dry away from direct heat and sunlight. Do not put a hot iron directly on the satin face — press it on the reverse, through a cloth, on the lowest setting, or hang it in a steamy bathroom instead.
What it will not do
- It will not keep you warm. It is a decorative strip of thin smooth fabric. It is an accessory, not a winter scarf, and it will not cover your neck.
- It is not the scarf in the old video. The video and the photographs that used to sit in this description show a much wider scarf wrapped right around a model's neck and tied in a large bow. That is not this item. This one is a slim ribbon about two fingers wide. Those images have been taken out of the description and the video has been moved to the end of the gallery, behind the photographs of the actual scarf.
- It is one scarf, not a set. One scarf ships per order, in the single color you choose. The photographs showing several colors laid out together are there to show the range, not the contents of a box.
- It will not hold a stiff shape. Satin this light is fluid. A bow in it will be soft and will need retying through the day; it will not stand up like grosgrain ribbon.
- We do not claim it is hypoallergenic or non-irritating. An earlier version of this page implied that. With the fiber unknown, we cannot say anything about how it will sit on sensitive skin.
In the box
- One narrow satin scarf, in the color you choose. That is the entire contents.
No second scarf, no gift box, no storage pouch, no hair clip and no matching set. The mannequin, the vases, the handbag and the paper card that appear in the photographs are the photographer's props and none of them ship.
