Non-Slip Kitchen Floor Mat & Runner – Printed Flannel with Dot-Grip Backing, 13 Prints

A thin printed floor mat with a dot-grip back, in thirteen prints and six sizes

This is a low-profile kitchen and hallway mat: a short-pile polyester flannel top printed with the pattern you choose, bonded to a black felt back that carries a grid of small plastic dots to hold it on smooth floors. It is about a quarter of an inch thick, lies flat under a door, and is sold as single mats from a small sink mat up to a long runner, or as a two-piece mat-and-runner set.

What it actually is

• A printed flannel mat, not a cushioned one. The top is a soft, short polyester pile with the design printed into it. At roughly 0.24 in (6 mm) thick it softens a hard floor a little; it is not an anti-fatigue or memory-foam mat and we do not sell it as one.
• Dot-grip backing. The underside is black non-woven felt with a regular grid of raised white plastic dots. On a clean, dry, smooth floor (tile, laminate, vinyl, sealed wood) the dots hold the mat in place under normal walking. On carpet, or on a dusty or damp floor, any dot-backed mat will creep.
• Overlocked edge. The perimeter is bound with a black stitched edge rather than a rubber lip, so the mat stays thin right to its border and does not catch a door.
• Thirteen prints. Photographic pebbles and grass, patchwork tiles, mandala patchworks, an aztec pattern, a Persian-style medallion, a black-and-white cutlery line drawing, and a cartoon-cat print. The print is on the surface only; the back is black on every option.
• Six sizes and a set. From a 16 x 24 in sink mat to a 20 x 63 in runner, plus a two-piece set of the 16 x 24 in mat and the 16 x 47 in runner in the same print.

Sizes are the maker's stated cut sizes; a printed flannel mat can run about half an inch either way.

Good to know

• Where it works. Kitchen, hallway, laundry room, bedside, in front of a desk. It is not a bath mat: the felt back is slow to dry and will not sit well on a wet bathroom floor.
• It arrives folded. Expect fold lines for the first day or two. Lay it flat, print side up, in a warm room; a few books on the corners speed it up.
• Grip depends on the floor. Wipe the floor before you lay the mat and the dots hold; on a floor with a film of dust or cooking grease, the mat will slide until the floor is cleaned.
• Cleaning. Small spills wipe off the pile with a damp cloth. Do not put it through a tumble dryer; heat can lift the printed pile and the dot backing.
• Colour. The prints are digital and the mockups on this page are the maker's renders; the real mat's colours are a little softer than the screen.
