The magnet ring is built in

There is a ring of magnets moulded into the back, so magnetic chargers, car vents, wallets and grips snap on and land in the same place every time. You can see the ring through the clear panel — on this case it is part of the look rather than something hidden under a printed back.

The camera rings do the quiet work

Metal rings stand proud around each lens, so the phone rests on the rings rather than on the glass when you put it down. Phone cameras get scratched on tables and desks far more often than they get dropped, and this is the part of the case that actually prevents that.

Charging goes straight through it

Drop the phone onto a magnetic puck or a wireless pad and it charges through the case — the magnet ring lines it up for you. The one thing that breaks this is stacking a thick card wallet or a metal plate on the back; take those off and it works.

Cases are cut per phone, and the camera bump moved between generations — a case for the wrong model will not line up. Check the exact name on your phone before choosing, including whether it is a Pro or a Pro Max.

What a clear case costs you

Clear cases yellow. All of them do — it is what UV does to the plastic that makes them transparent in the first place, and no coating stops it indefinitely. This case will yellow too, sooner if it lives on a car dashboard or a sunny windowsill. Anyone who tells you otherwise is selling.

The manufacturer does not publish a drop-test rating for this case, so we are not going to call it shockproof. It has raised edges around the screen and the cameras and a shock-absorbing bumper — that is a case, not armour.

Keep the case out of prolonged direct sunlight to slow yellowing. The electroplated finish is a surface coating and can wear at the corners with heavy use.
