Read this before you buy

No full ingredient list is published for this product anywhere, and we could not find one. It is a white-label item — the same bottle and the same photography are sold under several different brand names, and not one of those listings publishes a formulation. Anything applied to the lips is partly swallowed, so we think you are entitled to know that before you order rather than after.

What we do have is three names, and only three. The supplier’s own ingredients field lists Fragaria Ananassa (Strawberry) Fruit Extract, Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Extract and Niacinamide. That is a list of key actives, not a formula. There are no amounts on it, no preservative and no surfactant — and a product that foams itself out of a pump needs water, a foaming agent and a preservative, none of which is declared by anyone. So an ingredient missing from those three has not been ruled out. Strawberry is a food allergen, and this sits on your lips: if you react to strawberries, do not use this.

The carton it arrives in is branded SODSNIE and is printed with the words “Lightening” and “Lip Lightening and Dark Spot Removal”. We do not stand behind that claim and we make no version of it here. We have no evidence this product lightens anything, and we would not want you to buy it expecting that.

If you want a lip product whose full ingredient list you can read before buying, buy a different one. That is a reasonable thing to want, and on this product we cannot give it to you.

A lip mask, for lips that have gone past dry

Cold weather, indoor heating, wind, dehydration and habitual lip-licking strip the thin skin of the lip faster than it rebuilds. Once it cracks it stays sore, and the flaking makes anything you put on top sit unevenly.

A lip mask is a heavier, longer-wearing treatment step than an everyday balm. Used on dry or chapped lips, it holds moisture against the skin, and lips that are properly hydrated look and feel smoother, softer and less patchy than lips that are dry and flaking. That improvement is hydration, and it lasts as long as the hydration does.

How to use it

  1. Patch-test on the inner arm first and wait a full day. Do this again with every new bottle.
  2. Start with clean, dry lips. Take the clear cap off and press the pump once or twice onto a clean fingertip — it comes out as a white foam.
  3. Spread a thin layer over the outer lip surface only. Keep it off the inner lip and out of your mouth.
  4. Let the foam form, massage gently, then wipe or rinse it off with warm water and pat dry.
  5. Follow with your usual balm. This is an occasional treatment step, not a replacement for one.

The pack’s own How to use panel and every seller listing we found describe the same sequence — apply, let the foam form, massage gently, then wipe or rinse it off — and the pack says to use it three to four times a week. It is not a leave-on product. We do not tell you how long to leave it on, because the sources contradict each other on that and we are not going to invent a number. Follow the directions printed on the pack you receive.

Using it safely

  • Patch-test first, every time you open a new one. A small amount on the inner arm, then wait a full day before it goes anywhere near your mouth.
  • This is a short-wear rinse-off mask — do not sleep in it. No source anywhere describes it as an overnight product.
  • Not for broken, split, bleeding or cracked-open skin. Wait until the surface has closed.
  • Stop immediately if you get stinging, burning, tingling, swelling, redness or a rash, and do not try it again.
  • Keep it out of the mouth. Apply to the lip surface only, avoid the inner lip, and do not lick it off.
  • Not for children.
  • It contains strawberry fruit extract, and strawberry is a food allergen. This goes on the lips, so some of it is swallowed. If you react to strawberries, do not use this one.
  • If you are pregnant, breastfeeding, taking anything for your skin, or have known cosmetic or fragrance allergies, ask a pharmacist first — and note they will ask what is in it, and the only answer we have is the three key actives the supplier declares. If you have a cosmetic or fragrance allergy, do not buy this one yet.

A persistent change in lip colour is worth raising with a doctor or pharmacist rather than treating cosmetically. It can follow smoking or sun exposure, but it can also point to something medical, and no lip mask is the right tool for any of those.

Frequently asked questions

Will this lighten my lips?

We are not claiming it will, and we would not sell it to you on that basis. The carton makes that claim; we do not. What a mask can do is hydrate. Well-hydrated lips look smoother and more even than dry, flaking ones, and that is a change in condition, not in pigmentation — it fades as the hydration does.

Why isn’t there a full ingredient list?

Because nobody in the supply chain has published one. The most any seller declares is an ingredients field naming three key actives — Fragaria Ananassa (Strawberry) Fruit Extract, Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Extract and Niacinamide — and those three are now on this page. Everything else in the bottle is not, because it has never been declared. You can see for yourself that it has to be incomplete: the pack is printed alcohol-free and the seller declares it contains neither alcohol nor aerosol, yet it foams itself out of a pump, and that takes water, a foaming agent and a preservative that nobody names. SODSNIE is a label printed to order rather than a formulator, which is why no ingredient record exists under that brand name anywhere. We also found ingredient lists online for lookalike products sold in the same artwork, but they disagree with each other and none is attributable to this item, so printing one would be a guess dressed up as a fact. If the filler provides a full list, it will appear here. Until then, this is what we honestly know.

How is a mask different from lip balm?

A balm is thin, sits on the surface and gets reapplied through the day. This is a foaming mask you put on, let foam and rinse off — an occasional treatment step, not a replacement for an everyday balm. Keep using your balm.

What does it feel like?

It dispenses as a white foam rather than a thick paste — that is what a “bubble” mask is, and it is what the manufacturer's own photography shows. Beyond that we hold no description of the texture, and we are not going to invent one. Your patch-test on the inner arm will tell you how it feels a full day before it goes anywhere near your mouth.

Can I wear it under lipstick?

It is a foaming mask you rinse off, so it is not a base — use it as its own step, rinse, let lips settle, then apply colour if you want it.

Is it safe if I have sensitive skin?

We cannot tell you, because we can only tell you three of the things in it — and one of those three is strawberry extract, so if strawberries are a problem for you this one is out. Patch-test on the inner arm and stop at the first sign of stinging or swelling. If you react easily to cosmetics, or you have a known fragrance allergy, this is not the product to gamble on.
