This is a small battery-powered Christmas tree lamp for a bedside table, desk, mantel or sideboard. Thin gold-painted iron wire is wound into loose coils around a single upright stem so the coils form a tall narrow cone, a gold star sits on top, and a fine string of warm white micro LEDs is threaded through the coils. Switch it on and the whole cone glows amber. It stands about 13 inches tall on a round gold base and runs on three AA batteries, so there is no cord to hide.

What it actually is

• A wire-coil tree, not a ribbon spiral. This listing is the coiled-wire version: dozens of round wire loops stacked into a cone. The maker sells a flat ribbon spiral in the same range, and some of the maker's photographs further down this page show both; the ribbon version is not what ships here.
• Painted iron wire and a plastic base. The cone, stem and star are iron wire and pressed metal painted matte gold; the maker calls it wrought iron. The two-tier round base is gold-painted ABS plastic and houses the batteries and the switch.
• Warm white LEDs on a thin string. The lights are tiny LEDs on a fine wire threaded up through the coils, the same kind used in fairy-light strings. They run cool to the touch. The star at the top does not have its own bulb; it catches the glow from the coils below it.
• Cordless, on three AA batteries. A square door on the underside of the base takes three AA cells (not included) and a small slide switch next to it turns the lamp on and off. There is no plug, no USB port, no timer and no dimmer.
• Indoor only. The base and the LED string are not sealed against weather. Keep it on a table, shelf, desk or mantel indoors.

Size

For scale: it is roughly as tall as a wine bottle and sits on a footprint about the size of a saucer.

Good to know

• It arrives in one piece. Take it out of the box, open the door on the underside, fit three AA batteries and slide the switch. There is nothing to assemble.
• The coils may need a gentle tidy. Loose wire coils can press together in the box. Ease them apart with your fingers so the cone is even; the wire is soft enough to reshape and springs back into its spiral.
• Use alkaline AA cells. Rechargeable cells run at a slightly lower voltage and give a dimmer light. Take the batteries out if you store the lamp until next year.
• It is a mood light, not a reading light. Expect a soft amber glow that lights the coils and the wall behind them, not a lamp that lights the room.
• Keep it out of small hands. The wire ends and the AA batteries are not for children; this is a decoration, not a toy.
