A pocket-sized bow for steel-string acoustic guitars. Draw it across a string and the note swells and sustains like a violin or cello, instead of fading the way a plucked note does.
Turn it around and the pick on the handle is ready for strumming, so you can switch between bowing and picking in the same song.
How to play it
Rosin, bow, strum
Rosin the hair
Rub a cake of violin or cello rosin along the hair until it feels slightly grippy. A bow makes almost no sound until it has rosin on it.
Bow one string
Rest the hair on one string just above the soundhole and draw the bow slowly across it with light pressure. Tilt it to sound two strings together.
Flip to the pick
Turn the handle and use the triangular pick to strum or pluck, then go back to bowing.

Before you buy
Check your guitar and strings
- Steel strings. Bowing needs grip, so uncoated steel strings work best. Nylon strings and coated strings give little or no bowed sound.
- Acoustic guitars. It is made to reach the strings over the soundhole of an acoustic guitar.
- Rosin. You will need a cake of violin or cello rosin. Rosin is not listed in the package.
- Light pressure. Pressing hard gives a scratchy tone. A slow, light stroke sounds best, and it takes a little practice.
Specifications
Looking after it
- Wipe rosin dust off the strings and the guitar top with a soft dry cloth after you play.
- Keep your fingers off the hair. Skin oil stops the rosin from gripping.
- Store it where the hair will not be bent or crushed.
