Get the screw your drill can't point at

Some screws sit where a drill body will never fit: the back hinge screw inside a cabinet, a bracket behind the pipes under a sink, a drawer slide at the back of a narrow carcass. This flexible bit extension goes between your drill and the bit. The drill stays out in the open, and the coiled shaft bends around the obstacle to put the bit on the screw.

One end is a 1/4 in hex shank that goes into your drill's chuck or quick-change holder. The other end is a hex socket that takes any standard 1/4 in hex-shank screwdriver bit.

What it is, and what it is not

It is one flexible extension for hex-shank screwdriver bits. It is not a socket extension: there is no square drive, so it does not fit a ratchet or take sockets.

It is made for reach, not force. A coiled shaft twists a little under load, so it is at its best driving and backing out ordinary screws. It is not built for breaking loose seized bolts, for heavy lag screws, or for use on an impact driver.

How to use it

Chuck the hex shank. Tighten it in a drill chuck, or click it into a driver's 1/4 in quick-change holder.
Seat a bit in the socket end. Any standard 1/4 in hex-shank screwdriver bit.
Steady the far collar with your free hand. Guiding the knurled collar near the bit keeps the tip on the screw head while the shaft bends.
Go slow. Low speed and a low clutch setting. Let the screw pull itself in rather than pushing hard.

Where it earns its place

Cabinets and furniture. Hinge screws, corner brackets and drawer slides deep inside a carcass.
Under sinks and behind appliances. Brackets and panel screws hidden behind pipes or a back panel.
Electrical and electronics housings. Screws recessed inside a case or behind a lip.
Around the car and the shop. Trim and panel screws in tight corners, as a light-duty helper.

Which length?

7.9 in (200 mm) is shorter and easier to steady, and suits most cabinet and furniture jobs. 11.8 in (300 mm) reaches further and wraps around bigger obstacles, but takes a steadier hand on the far collar.
