Chest expander & arm exerciser
Two steel springs. Nothing to plug in, nothing to wear out.
This is a sprung steel frame you close with your own strength. Each of the two U-shaped bends is a heavy coil spring wrapped in an NBR foam sleeve. Grip the two padded crossbars, press them toward each other, and the springs fight you the whole way in and the whole way back.
There is no elastic in it. Nothing to perish in a drawer, nothing to snap mid-rep, no cable to fray. Bend it, let it back slowly, do it again.
What the strength number actually means
It is a force, not a capacity
The 88 lb and 110 lb figures are the force needed to press the frame fully closed. They are not a weight the tool holds or supports, and they do not translate into what you can lift on a bench or a curl bar. Where your hands sit changes the leverage, so the same springs feel different in different positions.
And it builds as you close it
Spring resistance is progressive. The first part of the squeeze is the easy part, and it climbs steeply as the coils compress. Most people should start at 88 lb: plenty of buyers of this style of exerciser find even the lower grade genuinely hard to close.
Three ways people use it
Chest and shoulders
Hold a crossbar in each hand, one above the other, and squeeze them together in front of your chest. This is the movement the shape is built around.
Arms, one side at a time
Brace one sleeved bend against your forearm and pull the crossbar in with that hand. The load lands on the working arm instead of being shared.
Back and rear shoulders
Take it wider and press from across the body. Same frame, different angle, different muscles doing the closing.
What adjusts, and what does not
The page this replaced was vague about this, so here it is plainly. The two legs push into the connector tubes and lock with spring buttons, and each leg carries more than one button position. Set the frame shorter and you shorten your leverage, so the same springs feel harder; set it longer and they feel easier.
What that never does is change the springs. The 88 lb and 110 lb grades are different spring gauges — two separate products, not two settings. Adjusting the span moves you around within the grade you bought. If you want the other grade, that is the other version.
Size and build
Dimensions are the manufacturer's stated assembled figures. We do not publish an alloy grade for the springs or the tube, because the supplier documentation does not state one consistently and we will not guess at it.
Treat it like the loaded spring it is
A sprung steel frame stores energy while you hold it closed, and it wants to open. That is the whole point of the tool, and it is also the thing to respect. The foam sleeving over each coil is there for a reason: covered coils keep hair and skin out of the spring as it compresses.
- Keep both hands closed on the grips for the entire rep, in and out. Do not let go of a loaded frame.
- Let it open slowly. Control the return instead of releasing it and letting the springs snap back.
- Keep your face out of the line of travel and work in open space, clear of other people and of anything you could strike.
- Check the spring buttons are fully popped through and locked before every session. Stop using it if a joint is loose, if a spring bends unevenly, or if you see a crack or heavy corrosion.
- Pick the grade that matches you rather than the one that just barely closes, and build up from there.
No wrist strap is supplied with this exerciser, so your grip is the only thing retaining it. That is the reason the closed-grip rule above matters more here than on a strapped bar.
What arrives
- One chest expander, shipped in pieces: two sprung U-shaped side frames, each with its own padded crossbar, and two connector tubes
- It assembles by hand in about two minutes. The legs push into the connectors and the spring buttons click through
- The strength grade you selected at checkout
No resistance bands, latex tubes, straps, door anchors or accessories are included, and none are needed. One exerciser is the whole product.
Real steel, in the space beside your sofa
It goes together by hand, it lies flat under a couch or on a shelf, and it gives you the same fight every single time you pick it up.
