A fiberglass fire blanket for smothering small, contained fires
A fire blanket works by cutting off the air a fire needs. You pull the two tapes, open the blanket, and lay it over the flames — a pan on the hob, a small bin fire, a fire in a grill. It is a first response for a fire that is still small and still in one place, kept where you can reach it without walking toward the fire.
This one is woven glass fiber in a red PVC wall pouch with a hanging grommet, so it mounts near the kitchen rather than living in a cupboard. There is nothing to service, nothing to charge and no gauge to read.
How to use it
These are the manufacturer's own printed instructions, reproduced from the pouch:
- Take a release tape in each hand and pull downwards and outwards.
- Drape the blanket over the flames to seal off the air.
- Switch off the heat.
- Leave the blanket in position until cool.

Read this before you buy
This blanket is for small, contained fires only. The manufacturer prints a warning on the pouch stating that this blanket is not an adequate size for an adult clothing fire. Do not buy it as personal protection, and do not rely on it to move through a fire.
A fire blanket is not a substitute for leaving. If a fire is spreading, has reached a wall or ceiling, or you cannot reach it without putting yourself between the fire and the exit, get everyone out and call 911.
Never use water or a blanket on a fire you are unsure of, and never lift the blanket to check before it has fully cooled — reintroducing air can reignite the fire.
