Three things off the nightstand

A nightstand collects: a lamp, a clock, a charging cable, and the phone that keeps sliding off the edge of it. This is one object doing all of that — a warm light under the arch, a clock face on top, and a charging pad where you would have put the phone anyway.

The cable count goes from three to one, which is most of the point.

The light points down, not out

The lamp head overhangs the base and throws its light downward into a pool rather than across the room. That is the right shape for a bedroom: enough to read a page or find a glass of water without lighting up the person asleep next to you.

Lay the phone down and it charges

The grey fabric base is a Qi wireless pad. No plugging in, no fumbling for a connector in the dark — the phone goes where it was going to go anyway. Worth knowing: a thick case, a metal case, a pop-socket or a card wallet on the back can all stop wireless charging working. If yours has any of those, take it off before you judge the pad.

Everything is on the top edge

The controls are touch icons moulded along the top of the head — light, alarm and display settings. There is no app, nothing to pair and no account to make. It is a bedside object, and it behaves like one.

What it does, and what we cannot tell you

The display carries the time, the date, the day and the room temperature. On the unit we photographed the temperature reads in Celsius, and the manufacturer does not document a Fahrenheit toggle — if that matters to you, assume Celsius.

The manufacturer also does not publish a charging wattage, so we are not going to invent one. Treat the pad as an overnight charger rather than a fast one.
