A toddler opens a door by hanging their weight on the lever. This is a small white plastic arm that gets in the way of that, and a tab only an adult hand can work.
The body sticks flat to the door face below the handle. A short hinged arm folds up and rests against the underside of the lever. Push the lever and it meets the arm and stops. To get through, you pinch the tab on the side of the arm with your thumb and turn the lever in the same grip — one hand, one movement, no key and nothing to remember.
How it holds
The arm is the whole mechanism
There is no catch to line up and no latch to click home. The arm either sits under the lever or it does not, and you can see which from across the room.
That also tells you its limit honestly: this is a physical obstruction made of plastic, held on by an adhesive pad. It buys you the seconds a small child needs to give up and wander off. It is not a bolt and it is not a barrier.

You can open it holding a child
Your thumb goes on the small tab set into the side of the arm, your fingers close over the lever, and both happen in one grip. You do not need a second hand, and you do not need to look at what you are doing after the first few times.
The reason a toddler cannot repeat it is not strength. It is that the release needs a pinch and a turn at the same time, in two different directions, and that coordination arrives years after the ability to hang off a door handle does.

Clean the spot
Wipe the door face directly below the lever and let it dry. Adhesive holds on a clean, dry, smooth surface and nowhere else.
Press it on
Hold the body flat against the door with the hinge at the top, and press hard along its whole length.
Let the pad bond
Leave it alone before you start using it. An adhesive pad reaches full grip over time, not on contact — this is the step people skip and then blame the lock for.
Before you buy
Check your handle. This is where these go wrong.
The most common complaint about every lock of this type is that it did not fit the door someone bought it for. Two minutes now saves a return.
- Lever handles only. It works by blocking a horizontal lever from swinging down. A round doorknob turns on its own axis with nothing for the arm to catch, so this will not hold one. If your door has a round knob, this is the wrong product.
- You need clear, flat door below the lever. The body is just under five inches tall and an inch and a half wide, and all of it has to land on flat door. If your handle sits on a long rectangular backplate, or the door is panelled or moulded right there, there may be nowhere for the pad to sit.
- The surface has to be smooth and sealed. Painted, laminated, primed or varnished doors are what adhesive is for. Bare or coarse-grained wood, chalky or flaking paint, textured vinyl and dusty surfaces will not hold a pad, whatever the pad is.
- Removal can mark the door. Any adhesive pad strong enough to resist a child pulling on it can lift weak or old paint when it comes off. We are not going to tell you it peels away clean, because on some doors it will not.
- One lock holds one door. This is sold as a single lock, not a multipack. Count your doors before you order.
Where not to use it
Some doors need a real barrier, not a deterrent.
We would rather lose the sale than have this fitted somewhere it does not belong. A plastic arm on an adhesive pad slows a small child down on an interior door. It is not a security device and it is not rated for anything.
Do not use it as the thing standing between a child and a swimming pool, a stairwell, an exterior door, a garage, a balcony, or a cupboard holding medicines or chemicals. Those need a proper latched barrier, and pool gates in particular are governed by codes this product has nothing to do with.
And like every childproofing device, it is there to buy you time, not to replace watching your child. Check it every so often — an adhesive pad can loosen with heat, humidity and months of small hands pulling on it.
