Ceiling bike hoist

One bike, up to the ceiling, by hand

Two pulley rails screw into a ceiling joist. Two hooks go under the saddle and the handlebar. You pull the rope, the bike rises level, and the cleat holds it there until you lower it again.

It puts the bike where the car, the mower and your feet are not. Nothing is powered and nothing is sprung: the pulleys make the pull light, and the webbing strap is a second hold once the bike is up.

How it works

Hook, pull, lock

Each hanging block carries a folding double hook with coated tips. One cradles the saddle rails, the other the handlebar. The rope runs over both ceiling pulleys and down to your hand, so you lift from the floor and never climb a ladder with the bike.

When the bike is up, the rope locks in the cleat on the end of one rail. Clip the safety strap round the rope as a backstop and walk away.

Mount

Screw the two rail brackets into a ceiling joist or solid beam, about a bike length apart.

Hook

Lower the hooks, roll the bike under, hook the saddle and the handlebar.

Pull

Pull the rope hand over hand until the bike is up, lock it in the cleat, clip the strap.

Read this before you buy

It has to go into a joist

A hoist is only as strong as what it is screwed to. The rails must be fixed into a ceiling joist or a solid beam with the screws supplied, never into drywall or ceiling board alone. The plastic anchors in the bag are for solid masonry ceilings; in a wood-framed ceiling you drive the screws straight into the joist. If you cannot find a joist, this is not the product for that ceiling.

  • Supplier-rated to 132 lb (60 kg). A typical adult bike weighs 20 to 35 lb, so there is margin. Heavier e-bikes: check the bike's weight against the rating before you buy, and expect a harder pull.
  • One bike per hoist. Two rails, two hooks, one bicycle. Buy one hoist per bike.
  • Manual, not spring-assisted. You pull the bike's weight through the pulleys. It is an easy pull for a normal bike, not effortless for a heavy one.
  • Designed for bicycles. The hooks are shaped for a saddle and a handlebar. We do not rate it for ladders, kayaks or other loads.

In use

Lift from the floor

Because the rope comes down to hand height, you raise and lower the bike standing on the garage floor. Lower it to the ground to unhook, or hold it at car-roof height while you load a rack.
