Something to lean back into that has arms to put your elbows on.
A big upright cushion that sits on the mattress with its back against the headboard, so you can sit up in bed without stacking three pillows behind you and rebuilding the stack every twenty minutes. Two thick padded arms come forward at the sides for your elbows, and a separate neck roll sits across the top on an adjustable strap.
It is not a small scatter cushion. Arm tip to arm tip it is a little under two and a half feet across, and it takes up most of the depth of a sofa seat. That size is the whole point — and it is also the thing buyers most often misjudge, so the measurements are further down the page.
The neck roll: how it actually attaches
It sits on an elastic strap, not a fixed mount
The neck roll is a separate padded cylinder. It is held on by a narrow elastic strap with a plastic slider, and you set its height by sliding it up or down that strap. That is what "adjustable headrest" means on this product, and it is worth being precise about because the picture can suggest something more rigid.
What that means in use: with the backrest against a headboard, a wall or a sofa back, the roll sits where you put it and stays there. Free-standing in the middle of a bed with nothing behind it, the roll can tip forward or back when you lean off it. Several buyers have said exactly this, and they are right.
Or take it off entirely
It comes off the strap in a second. Plenty of people use the backrest on its own and keep the roll for when they want their head supported rather than their shoulders.
The measurements the old page never gave
There were no dimensions on this page at all. Here they are, with what each one measures, because "big cushion" is not something you can order confidently from.

Two things on it nobody mentioned
There is a pocket on the arm
A slim flat pocket sewn onto the outer face of one arm. A phone or a remote drops into it, which is genuinely useful when you are sitting up in bed and there is nowhere to put anything down.
And a carry handle on top
A fabric loop at the top center of the back panel. The cushion is bulky and reasonably heavy once it has lofted, so a handle is the difference between carrying it and wrestling it from the bedroom to the sofa.
The cover unzips
A zip runs down the back edge and the outer cover comes off over the insert. The fabric is a soft short-pile plush with a velvety nap.
Things we are not going to tell you
Two questions come up constantly on this kind of cushion, and on both of them we would rather say "we don't know" than print something we cannot stand behind.
- We are not printing a fill specification. The insert is a loose shredded fill inside its own zipped liner, and the cushion arrives compressed, so it needs time out of the packaging to regain its full shape. What exactly that fill is made of, we do not have consistent supplier documentation for, so we are not naming it. If that is a deciding factor for you, ask us before you order and we will chase the supplier rather than guess.
- We are not naming the cover fabric. It is a soft short-pile plush with a velvety nap — that is what it is to the hand and to the eye. The previous version of this page named a specific fabric for it. We could not verify that name, so it has been removed rather than repeated.
- We make no health claim. This is a cushion, not a medical device. We are not telling you it corrects your posture, treats back or neck pain, or aligns anything. It is comfortable to lean on and it holds you upright while you read. That is the claim, and it is the whole claim.

Three pillows behind your back will hold you up for about ten minutes before the whole arrangement slides. This does the same job without collapsing, and gives your elbows somewhere to go.
