It clamps to an edge. It does not stand on a desk.
This is a gooseneck arm on a screw-down clamp, not a stand with a base. It needs an edge to bite onto: a desk top, a shelf, a bedside table, a bed frame rail or a headboard. Given one, it will hold your phone exactly where you want it and stay there. Without one, it has nothing to hold on to.
We are leading with that because it is the single thing people get wrong about this category, and it is the difference between a purchase that works and one that goes back in the box. If you want something to sit on a desk next to your keyboard, this is the wrong product. If you want your phone floating in front of your face while your hands are busy, this is exactly the right one.
The mount
A screw clamp, not a sticky pad
The base is a barrel with a threaded pad that winds up underneath the surface you are clamping to. You put the jaw over the edge, turn the screw until it is firm, and it is mounted. A soft pad sits between the clamp and the surface so it grips without marking the finish.
Because it is mechanical rather than adhesive or suction, it does not care whether the surface is glossy, textured, warm or damp, and it does not let go over time the way a suction cup does.
Where people clamp it
Anywhere with a lip you can get the jaw over.
The bed frame
On the side rail or headboard, so the phone hangs above you and you are not holding it up at arm's length.
The desk edge
Brings the screen up to eye level for calls, so you are not talking down into a phone lying flat.
A shelf or counter
In the kitchen or workshop, out of the way of what your hands are doing underneath.
The arm
Bends where you bend it, stays where you leave it
The arm is a flexible gooseneck: a bendable core inside a smooth sheath. You shape it by hand into whatever curve puts the screen where you want it, and it holds that shape until you change it. There are no ratchets, no locking knobs and no preset positions to fight with.
Measured along its length from the clamp to the cradle it is about 29.5 in (75 cm), so the reach is generous. Bear in mind that a gooseneck spends length on its curves: the more you snake it, the closer the phone ends up. Fully extended in a shallow arc it reaches a long way across a bed or desk; in a tight S it sits much nearer the clamp.
The cradle
A spring claw that grips the long edges
The holder is a sprung claw with soft pads on the jaw tips. You pull it open, drop the phone in, and the spring closes onto the two long edges of the phone rather than covering the screen or the buttons.
It sits on a ball joint, so once the phone is in you can turn it to portrait, roll it to landscape, and tilt it to whatever angle stops the glare, without rebending the arm.
Fit, honestly
What actually decides whether your phone fits
The supplier states this fits phones with screens from about 3.5 to 6.7 in, measured diagonally. That is the number the category always quotes, and on its own it is not the number that matters. A spring claw grips across the width of a phone, not across its diagonal, so what decides the fit is how wide your phone is with its case on.
In practice a large modern phone is around three inches wide, and a thick protective case or a folio adds to that. If you run a heavy rugged case or a wallet folio, expect to take the phone out of the case, or to check the width before you order. We would rather tell you that than let the diagonal figure do the talking.
Size and materials
A note on two numbers you may have seen on this page before. The arm is 29.5 in (75 cm), which matches the supplier's own measured diagram; a longer figure had been repeated in the body copy and it was not supported. On the clamp, the supplier states it opens to roughly 2.4 in (6 cm) of surface thickness, which we have not measured ourselves, so treat it as approximate and measure your own edge if it is close.
