What's included One assembled pop-up drain core

The plug in your basin has one job and it is losing. Hair goes straight past it, the water backs up, and sooner or later somebody is elbow-deep in the trap with a coat hanger. This swaps that plug for a push-button core with a strainer basket built into it — so the hair stops where you can see it, and you lift it out with two fingers.

Press once for a full basin. Press again to drain.

Push the chrome cap down and it seats to hold water for shaving, rinsing or hand-washing. Push it again and it springs up, and the water drains away through the slotted basket underneath. There is no lever behind the tap and no chain — the cap is the whole control.

When it needs emptying, pinch the cap and lift. The basket comes up with it, and whatever it caught comes up too. Rinse it under the tap and drop it back in.

Will it fit your basin?

This is the part worth two minutes before you order, because fit is the one thing a photo cannot tell you.

It replaces the core, not the drain. The drain body fitted through your basin stays exactly where it is. You pull out the push-button insert that sits inside it and hand-tighten this one into its place. No tools, no plumber, nothing to unscrew underneath.

So check what you have. Look into your drain opening. If there is a push-button plug sitting in it that you can lift out by hand, this is the part that goes back in. Measure straight across the inside of that opening before you order. Published sizes for this style of core vary between suppliers, so if your opening is unusually wide or narrow, message us with the measurement first and we will check it against the batch we hold.

Fitting it

Lift or unscrew the push-button core already sitting in your basin drain and take it out.
Wipe around the inside of the drain opening so the seal has a clean seat.
Drop this core in and hand-tighten it down. Finger pressure is enough.
Press the cap to check it seats and releases, then run the tap to check it drains.

Keeping it clear

Lift the core out every week or two, pull the hair off the basket and rinse it under the tap. That is the whole maintenance routine — and it is the reason the trap underneath stops filling up in the first place.
